Palo Alto, CA – Today, Home Care Assistance, the nation’s largest provider of in-home care, announced that Dawn Seek, the Director of Operations for the Maryland region, has been appointed to the Virginia I. Jones Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Council. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan appointed Seek to serve a two-year term, which will begin this December. Seek will be the only home-care specialist on the Council, and hopes to bring the innovative approaches to in-home care that she has helped champion at Home Care Assistance to her work on the Council.

This includes programs like Home Care Assistance’s Cognitive Therapeutics Method™, which was developed by brain health experts and includes administering more than 300 interventions to keep aging minds sharp and engaged. The company has also developed or piloted a range of solutions that complement its highly-trained caregiving services including smart home sensors and robots that allow seniors to video conference with loved ones.

“I have worked in the home care industry for over 30 years in various capacities, ranging from a private duty nurse to finance manager,” said Seek. “My entire career has been dedicated to serving the needs of seniors, and I am honored to be joining the Virginia I. Jones Council to help shape Maryland’s policies and practices, ensuring that the individuals and families confronted Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders have the helping hand that they deserve.”

The Council is a group of 26 members that was originally founded in 2013 and charged with building on the work of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Commission by improving and enhancing quality of life, support, and services for individuals living and their families. The Council is tasked with developing and monitoring the 2012 Maryland State Plan on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders devised by the Commission, and is responsible for promoting and expanding availability and accessibility of home and community-based support and service programs for the roughly 100,000 Marylanders living with Alzheimer’s.

“We are thrilled that Dawn will be joining such an esteemed group of healthcare professionals to lead Maryland’s efforts to support families touched by Alzheimer’s disease,” said Lily Sarafan, CEO of Home Care Assistance. “Our company is known for our bold and innovative approach to senior care, and we are excited for Dawn to bring this same dynamic spirit to the Virginia I. Jones Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Council.”
