Home Care Assistance Donates 100 Caregiver Recharge Grants to The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement
First 25 Recipients Chosen
San Francisco, CA -- June 6, 2018 -- Home Care Assistance is donating 100 Caregiver Recharge Grants to families living with Alzheimer’s to draw attention to the disease’s impact on women. Every 65 seconds, a new person is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in America, and 2 out of 3 of those individuals are women. Women also make up the majority of caregivers in the U.S. who are caring for family members with Alzheimer’s. Twenty-five grant recipients were chosen on Saturday, in honor of Move for Minds™, an initiative of Maria Shriver, The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement and Equinox Sports Clubs. Move for Minds™ events are held throughout June in honor of Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. The events raise awareness and funding for women-based Alzheimer’s research and educate the public on the connection between brain health and lifestyle. Move for Minds™ includes a nationwide tour, special events and digital campaigns. Recharge grants will continue to be awarded during 2018 and 2019. “A Precious Gift of Time and Rest” Maria Shriver, founder of The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement and of Move for Minds™, said, “Burnout is one of the greatest challenges caregivers face. These individuals work on the frontlines of humanity caring for their loved ones 24/7 a day. They’re not paid for this work and rarely get any time off. That’s why The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement is proud to partner with Home Care Assistance to give Recharge Grants to 100 caregivers through this respite program. By awarding recipients a weekend off, we’re giving these hard-working caregivers the precious gift of time and rest.” “I couldn’t be more delighted with our partnership with Maria and the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement. Our shared commitment to addressing the grand challenges of cognitive health and caregiving has yielded key initiatives including the Caregiver Recharge Grants,” said Lily Sarafan, Chief Executive Officer of Home Care Assistance. 25 Recipients Chosen on Saturday The first 25 grant recipients were chosen on Saturday, June 2. These include caregivers such as:- Denise, of California, caring for her mother. Keeping her mother active, Denise believes, slows progression of her Alzheimer’s. Denise wants to use her time with respite caregivers to catch up on paperwork and mending, and to take a nap.
- Jean, of North Carolina, who is caring for her husband, and misses traveling and seeing her friends. She intends to do just that with her grant.
- Carlos, of Texas, cares for his wife. He will use his gift of time to play golf, knowing that professionals are caring for his wife.
