Gabrielle Pumpian

Home Care Liaison

Gabrielle has been in the health care arena in San Diego County for nearly a decade. After graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, she decided to transition her focus into the health care industry. She learned first-hand the importance of excellent care in a home setting after the unfortunate stroke of a family member. This experience shifted her perspective and career ambitions towards helping others obtain the resources they need in order to live a dignified and happy life in their home environment. Shortly after, she began working as a Marketing and Sales Representative for a local home care agency, eventually moving onto an opportunity as the Director of Marketing for a large skilled nursing and rehab facility in San Diego County. Her heart remained in the home care world, and she is fulfilled every day supporting and working with people who are in need of caregiving services.

Sean Cygan

Operations Manager

Sean has over 30 years of professional experience working in the home care industry. Sean is currently Operations Manager for HCA San Diego County offices. Prior to joining Home Care Assistance, Sean has worked in multiple roles in the Human Resources field.

Over the course of his professional career, Sean has worked with a variety of seniors and adults with disabilities. Sean has always had a passion for helping seniors and persons with disabilities maintain their independence lifestyle while living in their own home.

Michelle has worked in the senior care world for over ten years and is passionate about helping people age well. After getting her Master’s degree in Social Work with a focus on Mental Health and Geriatrics, Michelle worked to support families caring for a loved one with neurodegenerative health issues as they navigated the healthcare system, long term care decisions and changing family dynamics.

Michelle began working at Home Care Assistance as an Interventionist in our Cognitive Therapeutics Method program, moving into a position developing enrichment content and training other facilitators across the country. Michelle is driven by a belief that each person’s life history provides a roadmap to care planning and loves working with our clients to build a personalize care plan incorporating their unique history and current care needs.

Rosanna has been with HCA for seven years. She leads a dynamic team of Staffing Managers and also oversees recruitment. Before joining HCA, Rosanna worked as an LVN for a hospice company in San Diego. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and is a registered nurse in the Philippines. Prior to migrating to the United States Rosanna managed a US based Staffing and Recruitment company engaged in overseas recruitment for Healthcare professionals and Executive Search and temporary staffing for local multinational companies.

Rosanna prides herself as being instrumental in growing the San Diego office and looks forward to more productive years with the company.

Jonna Hernandez

Jonna's professional experience is in sales, mentoring, and strategic market development. Her education includes a B.A. in Human Communication Studies from California State University, Fullerton and a M.A. in Counseling from Azusa Pacific University. Jonna started in the health care industry in 2011 as an Admissions and Marketing Director for a skilled nursing facility. She has extensive sales experience in the post-acute sector including skilled nursing facilities, home health, and non-medical home care. Jonna's most recent position was the Area Operations and Sales Manager for a non-medical home care agency for Orange County, South Bay, and Inland Empire regions. Jonna's personal philosophy is to change the outlook of how others view and experience senior healthcare. She is absolutely thrilled to be a part of an innovative team that is truly defining how the world is aging.

Crystal Montero

Staffing Manager

Crystal brings over 15 years of customer service experience in everything from hospitality to home care to her role with Home Care Assistance. Specifically, she has trained to work with high-end clients who are facing difficult situations. Crystal received a double bachelor's in Public Health and Gerontology with a minor in Social Work from San Diego State University. She found her passion for seniors by doing a public health internship where she worked with seniors. She fell in love with it and even stayed in college an extra year in order to obtain a double major.

Her favorite part of her job is working with the elderly and forming relationships with them. Crystal comes from a Hispanic family and feels that valuing elders is something that was instilled in her from a young age and is strongly tied to her culture. Crystal believes working with seniors is a privilege and enjoys giving back to her local community.

Aaron Smith

Home Care Liaison

Aaron has two years of experience doing operations and business development for a home care organization in Orange County. He is adept at management and operations and his passion is meeting with and educating community partners. Aaron had great success being a trusted home care resource for medical centers, skilled nursing facilities, and senior living communities.

He graduated from California State University of Long Beach with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and a minor in Communication Studies. As a student, he decided to get into home care because he wanted a career which would allow him to help those in need and make a difference in the world. This was further influenced by the fact that his mother was a caregiver for 16 years. She was the primary caregiver for a paralyzed woman who served as a key role model in Aaron's life. She left such a monumental impact on his life, which greatly influenced his career choice.

Aaron strongly believes that every day is an opportunity to improve, learn, and be better than the person he was yesterday. As an innovative thinker and someone striving for continuous improvement, he strongly follows the company's mission to change the way the world ages.

Barry Howland

Client Care Manager

Barry brings several years of senior care experience to his role as Client Care Manager for the Home Care Assistance office in La Jolla. His previous positions in the industry have been as a Community Liaison and Office Manager, working in multiple roles with caregivers, clients, and resource organizations within the community. He received his B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing from San Diego State University. In his spare time, he volunteers at his local senior center and delivers food with Meals-On-Wheels. Barry's role model and greatest supporter as a young person was his great-grandmother Ruth. That relationship is what ultimately guided him to work with seniors and support them in their independence, comfort, and dignity.

Denise Pulido

Caregiver Recruiter

Denise has been in the home care industry for nearly a decade. Her area of expertise is in recruitment and matching caregivers to clients. She has a CNA and caregiver background so she's familiar with the types of caregiver clients seek and expect. Denise's work philosophy is that "thinking big and pushing yourself to solve big problems that impact multiple industries will help keep you motivated during the ups and downs." She enjoys coming to work every day thanks to her wonderful team, who makes each day exciting.

Denise's favorite part about working with seniors is being able to find the right caregiver who fits their needs and personality. Her goal is to find each client a caregiver that she would want to work with her loved ones. Denise loves traveling the world to attend soccer games in other countries and she loves her community because it is so diverse and I get to experience so many different cultures.

Amy Joiner

Lead Client Care Manager

Amy Joiner began doing Geriatric Care Management in 2008 in Hawaii and have consecutively been providing Care Management to older adults for several years.

Amy has a Master's Degree in Social Work from Hawaii Pacific University, where she assisted in overseeing homeless shelters and supervised bachelor's- level social work and psychology students from the University of Hawaii and Pacific University specializing in Micronesia and Native Hawaiian cultures, and a BA in Social Work from Humboldt State University in northern CA, where she represented the campus student body as the president of the Student Social Work Association for two consecutive years and had the honor of presenting her research at the National Association of Social Workers in San Francisco regarding Manic Depression and Bi-polar Disorder.

Amy takes pride in creating care plans designed specifically for each individual client's and family's needs while adding a personalized touch. She enjoy serving as a liaison between clients, their trustees, attorneys, physicians, nurses, and family members, as well as educating caregivers and the community on the ageing process.

Ashley Murray

Client Care Manager

Ashley brings years of customer service experience to her role as Client Care Manager for the Home Care Assistance office in La Jolla. After being in the customer service industry for nearly a decade she decided to transition into home care. Previously, she effectively trained sales professionals and had success with developing a sales and customer service staff. She found her passion for seniors when she transitioned into the home care industry and started providing care for the senior community. She saw how it truly impacted the quality of their lives and loved forming relationships with them. She has a genuine passion for helping others, which makes her a great fit for Home Care Assistance.

Gail Hofilena

Staffing Manager

Gail graduated from San Diego State University with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. For over 10 years she has provided direct patient care in hospitals, facilities and private homes. Not only does she have professional experience in the healthcare industry, she is also a Caregiver for her own mother and father.

Gail has a heart of gold. With a strong passion to help others, she treats Caregivers and clients as family.

Armi Berdin

Staffing Manager

Armi came to Home Care Assistance after 5 years of care giving privately, handling various cases from hospice care to palliative care. She worked as a caregiver for Home Care Assistance La Jolla and was assigned to clients and cases that required extensive and sensitive care because of her skills. She was invited to join La Jolla office Assistant Staffing Manager Program and eventually was assigned to work full time as a Staffing Manager.

Armi graduated with a Degree in Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and studied Building Construction Technology. Her managerial and leadership skills were developed from managing a construction business. Her vast experience in organizational nature plus her care giving skills are her greatest assets in handling the challenging tasks of effective staffing.
