Meet the Team

Home Care Assistance of Northern Virginia was founded with a commitment to the health and well-being of our caregivers in addition to giving back to the community. The owners of the business have many years of management experience, professional health certification and the passion to put their clients' needs before their own. A brief profile of some of our team is provided below.

Ken Hanson, Supervisor

Hello, my name is Ken. Welcome! I am so delighted to be heading up the McLean office of Home Care Assistance. I thoroughly enjoy what I do and feel very proud that we’ve been able to improve the quality of life for so many of our clients. I hope we can be of service to you or someone you know.

How we train our Caregivers:

All of us at Home Care Assistance work hard to ensure that our caregivers are rigorously trained through in-service education each month. We cover a wide variety of subjects during our training seminars, from patient care and etiquette to specialized treatment for dementia and Alzheimer's clients. Additionally, all caregivers are certified in our unique Balanced Care Method and are trained in the hands-on application of these holistic methods.

Q: Why choose in-home care?

A: For many years, options for the elderly, disabled, or convalescent were often limited to living in managed facilities or hospitals, or relying on the generosity of friends, family, and neighbors to live at home. Now, Home Care Assistance and other home care agencies offer a professional, safe, and reliable alternative to these options. With in-home care, clients are assisted by licensed caregivers and are able to stay in their own home without having to burden friends or family or lose their independence. In-home care is a great choice for anyone with medical or age-related needs that require assistance but do not want to leave the comfort of their homes.


Q: What kinds of activities does Home Care Assistance provide?

Q: What is the difference between hourly and live-in care?

A: When you are discussing care with various agencies, you may hear various terms such as "live-in care", "companionship pricing", or "weekend rates" being used frequently. It can often be confusing. Home Care Assistance strives to make this process as simple as possible. We offer two types of service, hourly and live-in. Both these types of service are offered at flat rates that do not change depending on the day of the week or the time of day, unlike some other agencies. Hourly service provides shifts of 4 hours or more at an hourly rate. Live-in service provides 24 hours of round-the-clock service at a fixed daily rate.

With hourly care, aides work in the home and depart after their shift. With Live-in care, aides stay in the home with clients to make sure that they always have someone present to attend to their needs. Caregivers typically stay in a spare or guest bedroom, but are always available to help if the client gets up at night, needs assistance using the restroom, or has other needs during the evening hours. We typically staff a live-in assignment with one caregiver working a 5 day shift and another caregiver working a 2 day shift. That way the aides have time off to take care of their personal issues on their own time, not on the client's time. Also, having two aides covering the assignment builds in backup, so if one aide is sick or has a conflict, the other aide can step in to assure continuous 24-hour care.
