One in eight older Americans has Alzheimer’s disease. But as two recent and disappointing studies have confirmed, scientists still have a long way to go when it comes to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s. More clinical trials are needed to uncover treatments that will be effective against the disease. Unfortunately, finding participants for these trials is often difficult and time consuming. Enter the Alzheimer’s Prevention Registry, which aims to support enrollment in Alzheimer’s prevention studies around the United States. Run by the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, the APR hopes to build a database of 250,000 people who are passionate about combatting the disease.
It takes just a few minutes to sign up for the registry, and you only need to provide basic contact and demographic information. Anyone over 18 can take part, and you don’t have to have any memory or thinking problems.
In return, you’ll receive an e-newsletter with the latest information about Alzheimer’s and prevention research. And more importantly, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you’re stepping forward and protecting your own health as well as the health of loved ones and friends.
Based on your background and age, you may be asked to participate in a clinical trial. The APR plans to undertake several different types of trials, including those that involve taking medication or dietary supplements, as well as lifestyle interventions. It’s important to note that by signing up for the registry you are under no obligation to take part in any research study. Also, your information will only be used within APR and it will not be shared.
