Study finds men more likely to develop memory related issues

A new study reported by MSNBC.com has found that men are more likely to develop memory problems as they get older.  The study, published in the Journal of Neurology, found that men are 1.5 times more likely to develop cognitive deterioration then women.

Ronald Petersen, a researcher for the study said, “This is the first study conducted among community-dwelling persons to find a higher prevalence of MCI [Mild Cognitive Impairment] in men.”

These findings still need to be confirmed through more extensive research, but for now, they serve as a warning.  As a reminder, ways one can help prevent memory loss are activities like Sudoku, cross word puzzles, painting and playing music – anything that keeps the mind active and challenged. And for all you men out there, if these findings are accurate, you need to make a concerted effort toward stimulating your brain daily.
