Elsa Bailey is living proof of Mark Twain’s famous quote, “age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”. Having been alive for precisely a century, this 100-year-old daredevil doesn’t let her age prevent her from doing what she wants when she wants – and right now, it’s fulfilling a bucket list of life goals.
This past October Ms. Bailey took a weeklong trip to Churchill, Manitoba, to accomplish her life long dream of seeing polar bears in the wild. Unexpectedly, the best part of her trip was being able to get up close and personal with a pack of domesticated animals-huskies. During her departure to Churchill, Ms. Bailey was also able to ride beside a professional dog sled musher.
A former occupational therapist, Ms. Bailey claims that her secret to her good health is remaining active, eating a healthy diet, staying positive, and doing things her way. This past May, the 100-year-old celebrated her birthday by taking to the slopes in the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in Keystone, Colorado. During this endeavor, she was never worried about fatigue, but only whether or not she remembered how to turn! For her next excursion, Ms. Bailey has her mind set on visiting Yellowstone Park. She has wanted to go for years, and is looking forward to seeing the fountainlike jets of water that steam into the air out of the geysers.
Elsa, you are an inspiration to all of us at Home Care Assistance and we wish you the best on your next adventure!
