Today marks the 41st birthday of Earth Day! Earth Day was founded in 1970 to raise awareness for the environment and is credited with starting the modern environmental movement. Thanks to Earth Day and associated awareness programs, eco-friendly products and technologies are becoming even more mainstream across all industries.
The idea for Earth Day was born in 1969 when Wisconsin Senator, Gaylord Nelson, witnessed a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara. The first Earth Day was a giant success with over 20 million Americans participating. That day, activists rallying for a variety of environmental causes and issues were brought together and united for the good of the world.
Over the years, Earth Day has grown and is now recognized worldwide as a day for learning and activism on behalf of the environment. Countless environmental protection laws have been passed as a result of this day and the support it draws.
At Home Care Assistance we encourage you to participate in Earth Day in some way, shape or form. Grab a friend or senior and go for a bike ride, plant an herb garden or take the bus. Remember to reduce, reuse and recycle and educate yourself about the environment that you live in! Participate in the many fun activities around this day and remember that each and every one of us makes an impact – whether it is positive or negative is up to you.
Happy Earth Day from all of us!
