Eric Dishman, a healthcare researcher for Intel, has spent the last ten years of his career trying to find solutions to the technological and societal problems we face in caring for the aging. In a lecture for TED, he shares his findings and some of his ideas for supporting independent living in the future. Dishman argues that as society prepares for the aging population to boom, we need to move healthcare from institutions, hospitals and nursing homes and focus on a personal, networked healthcare paradigm centered around the home. He explains that this in-home model of healthcare is not only a more economically practical approach, but it will also allow us to enjoy a higher quality of life as we age.
