4 Tips to Beat the Summer Heat
With summer in full swing and temperatures skyrocketing, it’s more important than ever to keep hydrated and stay in tune with your body’s signals that you may be overheated or dehydrated.
Beat the heat with these helpful tips:
1. Stay Hydrated – Drink water! There is no better way to protect yourself from exhaustion and heat related fatigue than to flush your body with water. Instead of waiting until you’re completely parched, drink water as soon as you feel the need to.
2. Drink “Cool” Water – The human body hydrates best when water is slightly cool or at room temperature. If it’s too cold, your body must work to heat it up and if it’s too hot, your body must exert additional energy to cool it down. Both cases result in inadequate hydration that will not be as beneficial.
3. Stay Sweaty – If you find yourself outside for an extended period of time, a significant amount of body sweat is a good sign, even if it is slightly uncomfortable. The moment you stop sweating is the first sign of heat exhaustion. If you find yourself to be in this situation, it’s best to seek shade and sip (not chug) water.
4. Dress to Refresh – Clothes also play an important role in keeping your body temperature down as outdoor temperatures rise. It’s best to wear light colored, airy clothing. The brighter colors reflect the sun, which should help keep you calm, cool, and collected throughout the day.
By harnessing these simple suggestions, you should be able to keep cool throughout the summer without falling victim to the heat.
